Marina Bay - Singapore

Singapore is a small island, located at the southern tip of the Malaysian peninsula, just 1.5° North of the equator. Singapore was once part of the British colony as an important port in the shipping industry. The country has undergone rapid development since its independence 50 years ago and is now the 3rd richest country in the world. It is home to 5.4million people of different ethnicities living within 716km2 of land, making it an extremely dense melting pot of cultures.

Runner's Paradise

Although driven by its economic development, the government in Singapore also places its emphasis on the importance of exercise and leisure. With careful planning and land management, there are matrixes of parks and nature reserves scattered around Singapore. You may choose to run along one of these routes (e.g. Central Urban Loop, North-Eastern Riverine Loop and Eastern loop), which provide linkages to many of the green spaces in Singapore. You may also find running trails such as in the MacRitchie nature reserve, located at the heart of the city. You can find out more details here.

The climate in Singapore stays hot and humid all year round. Running in Singapore may be uncomfortable to those not used to the equatorial heat and humidity here. Thus, it is advisable to avoid running around noon and to keep hydrated to beat the heat!

The running community in Singapore is very inclusive and they welcome anybody to join in the fun. Check out some of the running groups in Singapore, such as Running Department,  which organises weekly training runs, as well as Gei Gei Running Club, which organises free themed runs for the community from time to time.

We are Kelsey and Kang Jing from Singapore. Fitness is a big aspect of our relationship. To us, it is not just about keeping fit; but rather, it has become our lifestyle. Running and training together as a couple has given us a great platform to build our relationship. Being each other’s support and motivation, we work hard not only for ourselves, but also for each other. It not only gives us a common goal that we work towards together, but also an opportunity for us to love and learn about each other more.

We hope that through our journey, we will be able to inspire more people to choose the healthier lifestyle.
